Though her pieces often have a childlike appeal, Maryanne extends her art form with bold graphics and ironic references that make them unexpectedly sophisticated. With a keen and disciplined eye as a former graphic designer, Maryanne turns traditional craft into contemporary art in a commanding and refreshing way.
Each piece is an original made with naturally dyed merino wool. Images and patterns are cut and layered then fused together through a wet felting process. Her works range in size from 8×8 to private commissions as large as 60×72 inches.
Maryanne is influenced by a lifetime of salty summers, botanical study in watercolor and the precision of graphic design. Maryanne, her husband and their three children live in Boulder, Colorado, and spend summers on Long Island.
