Why wool?

Truth is, I was drawn to the medium for several reasons. As a colorist and former graphic designer, I relish blending and layering infinite varieties of color with wool. I organize the wool into layers to achieve depth with my own unique process. Though not exactly sculpture, my work is dimensional. When I am at work on a piece I am building and shaping. The wool also has a unique texture that is evident even if the piece is in a frame. The art is warm and bright.

Designing and creating is something I am wired to do. Organizing elements and color is a natural extension of my personality. When I began working with wool a decade ago, all the years of studying botanicals, art history plus my graphic design discipline fused together into my wool textile art. My business was born.

My process is also my own. Each original piece I create is made with naturally dyed merino wool. I hand cut images and patterns that are then layered. The wool is finally fused together through a wet felting. My pieces ranges in size from 8x8 to 65x65.

My smaller pieces are sold on this site but much of my output is private commissions for individual clients, interior designers and art advisors. I love the collaborative process of commissioned art and encourage potential buyers to use past work as a platform as we create their own ‘Maryanne Quinn’ together.

You may notice from the work on on my site and Instagram stream, I am influenced by salty summers and the mountains around me in Colorado. I love vintage decor and pop art. I live to create and I love my job.
